Maryland FIRST Thanksgiving Note
We’d like to extend thanks and gratitude to all the teams, mentors, volunteers, sponsors and supporters of FIRST activities in Maryland and beyond. FIRST now reaches more than 5,000 students and 1,000 adult mentors and volunteers in Maryland — all helping to inspire the next generation of technology innovators and leaders. We wish you all a very Happy Thanksgiving.
As we enter this holiday season, we also begin the heart of the FIRST season in Maryland. Please help us spread the word by getting new people to our events, or better yet, volunteering! We have more than 20 competitions all over Maryland from December through April. In particular, save the dates for our three top events:
- January 19: Maryland FIRST LEGO League Championship at UMBC
- February 23: Maryland FIRST Tech Challenge Championship at JHU Applied Physics Lab
- April 12-13: Chesapeake Regional FIRST Robotics Competition at the Baltimore Convention Center
Check out our event calendar on MarylandFIRST.org, and learn more about volunteering at a FIRST event in Maryland. Please tell your friends, get them involved, and plan teams for next season.
This is also a time when we reach out to sponsors and donors. Please help us connect with potential sponsors — we welcome support at any level for our events. The “fiscal cliff” has put a dent in support from some of our longtime defense-related sponsors, and we need to broaden our base now more than ever. Contact me directly for information on sponsorship opportunities or to share a prospective lead. You can also donate directly to FIRST in any amount. If you do, please indicate the purpose of your gift to support FIRST operations in Maryland.
Our thanks again for all you do, and we wish you great holiday and FIRST seasons!
